FOUR WAYS TO MAKE MONEY FROM THE POKEMON GO CRAZE.
Pokémon Go has welcomed millions of new players over the last week since its release now in Europe and Japan. Made evident by some pretty hilarious viral videos of Japanese kids losing the plot over the game. There have even been reports of people quitting their jobs to become Pokémon masters. With so many logged on and still no signs of slowing, investors are looking at ways to cash in on all the nostalgia going around. So here’s four tips on how to make money from Pokémon Go.
Tip 1: Invest in Mobile.
Pokémon Go runs using large amounts of data and can drain a battery quickly. The GPS feature on the phone needs to be on and since Pokémon Go requires you to get outside to search for critters, using Wi-Fi instead of mobile data is not an option. Mobile companies are releasing new “gamer plans” to boost gigabyte usage, allowing players more freedom to play without facing costly overuse charges.
In addition to upping data plans, avid players of the game are also trading in their phones for models better equipped to handle the app. At the top of the buyer list are the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, the LG G4, and the Motorola Moto G4. Each model has the capability to run the app and have the battery life to let players play for more than just a few hours.
Tip 2: Invest in electronics
Poised to also cash in on the Pokémon Go craze are companies who sell items like external battery packs. With an external battery, players can extend the life of their phone battery simply by plugging it in.
For the investor minded, Motley Fool suggests that stocks in companies like JB Hi-Fi Limited are in a prime position to make a pretty penny. By selling electronics and accessories like the phones and external batteries, the store is looking at an increase in profits…for once.
Tip 3: Set a lure outside your business
Savvy local businesses are finding ways to make money by setting ‘lures’ outside their place of business. A lure brings Pokémon to a Pokéstop, so if you wait around eventually they’ll come to the players. Some businesses want to have a lure but don’t have a Pokéstop nearby. Apparently, you can request Pokéstops through a previous augmented reality game also made by the same firm called Ingress.
Tip 4: Provide Pokémon Go services
You have to walk to catch Pokémon and hatch Pokémon eggs, but you can also drive. Pokémon drivers are popping up in cities around their world. For $40 an hour Grant Richard Krupp, professional Pokémon driver, will drive you around to some of his favourite spots to catch rare Pokémon species and give you charging cables and even set lures along the way.
Although Pokémon has become a growing concern due to some of the news reports lately, and the fact that change is always scary, there’s still a lot of positives. Paying attention to some of the potential economic developments of the game and peripheral product and service industries could end up paying you back. In that way, perhaps, you become your own version of a Pokémon Master.
